Aloha from Maui,
This is Billy Scanlan. Most of you know I ended my time with YWAM in Homer, AK and am now serving with YWAM Maui. I am currently staffing a Discipleship Training School. There are three weeks of lectures left and then my co-leader, Calla, and I will lead a group of 12 students to Borneo (Indonesia), Malaysia, and Brunei for three months of hiking through the jungle. We will share the gospel as well as encourage and disciple the believers there. Some of these people have never heard the name of Jesus or seen white people before.
After the three months in Indonesia, I will be traveling with a smaller team to Nepal and Tibet for two months as the rest of our team heads home. In Nepal, I will be partnering with a friend who is an agriculturalist. He has made training manuals to show pastors in Nepal how to raise animals and grow food to feed the poor and help support their ministries. I will be taking pictures of the agriculture process to help him make a wordless guide that can be used anywhere in the world. In Tibet we will meet with new contacts to house and find ministry opportunities for future missionary teams.
There are so many needs in this world. I feel called to raise awareness of these needs through photography. I want to show practical ways to meet those needs. And I want to mobilize teams to serve these people.
God is calling me to use photography to expose both the physical and spiritual needs world wide, so Christians may see the great need to step into obedience to Jesus as He calls us to love, go into all the world and share the good news, disciple all who come to believe, feed the hungry, and care for the widows and orphans. I also want to impart a passion to go into the nations and see God move, through our gifts and serving. Every person has gifts or skills that could be critical in fulfilling the Great Commission, and I want to get people excited about their part in this mission.
I want to give Christians practical ways to meet these needs. One way is to GO. I would like to set up short term focused trips to meet the specific physical and spiritual needs in the world today. Another way is to PRAY. My heart is to get prayer points, statistics, and pictures of these nations into the hands of Christian’s world wide to increase their passion for prayer. We also need people to GIVE. I would like to raise money to bless these nations to further any projects requiring extra money, building supplies, bibles, and anything else needed which will further their ministry.
I will continue to travel the world "...to make ready a people prepared for the Lord" (Lk. 1:17) through speaking to people who have never heard the gospel, discipling believers, and meeting any needs in the process. But I will not and can not do it alone.
I will bring my camera to capture the heart of the people, the injustices, poverty, pain, and the needs of the people I meet. I will then make known these needs to Christians world wide and give opportunities to those who are willing to stand up and fight to win justice.
This life long journey will require monthly support as I travel from place to place sharing the gospel, discipling believers, and trying to capture God's heart, mind and will through photography. I am also in need of a laptop, which is a key tool in what I am doing. As I said before I cannot do this alone I will need people to partner with me. More then just financially, I am in great need of people who want to be a part of this ministry in other creative ways.
I just ask that you would pray about partnering with me by financially supporting me monthly, with a one-time donation, or most importantly, by prayer. There is no pressure, God has called me to this and He will make a way. I if He is not calling you to support me support me then please obey Him.
